Angel for a Day….

What’s with the angel wing photos on your website?

VondaR-4

When I decided to update the photos on my website a few months ago, I made the spur of the moment decision to wear a pair of angel wings when the venue I had originally chose fell through and the outfit I was going to wear wasn’t altered timely enough.   So why did I choose to go with a white dress and a pair of angel wings?   The wings were a gift from a dear friend of mine who said I should have them.  I had only worn the set of wings once while wine tasting with a large group of girlfriends.  It was spontaneous and fun.  They would cause a stir wherever we went and be a great conversation starter.

When I did the photo shoot for my website photos we went outdoors to several Sacramento locations.  It was entertaining to hear what people were saying –

“Hey, look an angel!!!!”

“What is this some kind of new marketing angle?” – this from a homeless man who came running after us as we were leaving.

Wouldn’t it be fun to be an angel?  Try it, or try some other spontaneous action/adventure sometime.   It’s liberating and quite fun!

F R E E D O M !!!

I found out recently that you can’t put a price tag on freedom.   Getting back into the corporate world and going back to a law office full-time didn’t turn out to be a good fit for me at all.  I found the office and some of the people employed there to be oppressive.  I refuse to work in an environment that doesn’t foster kindness, or doesn’t truly have their client’s best interests at heart.

I am glad I had this experience because it made me realize that there was a reason I left nine years ago and I need to continue doing what I have been doing in the past.  When you’ve been self employed for as long as I have, it’s just too difficult to entertain the idea of working for someone else.  I feel so blessed that I can return to a job I truly love.   My clients are some of the most interesting and nicest people you would ever encounter.  I consider them family.

Being your own boss, to me, is the key to happiness.  Here’s just a few reasons why:

Freedom to:

set your own hours ( no 9a-5p!!  😉 )

spend quality time with family/friends/pets

more time to help others and volunteer to great causes

have control over your earning potential

be self disciplined

More leisure time/vacation!!!!!

“Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy.  If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself, you’ll have inner peace.  And if you have that, along with physical health, you will have had more success than you could possibly have imagined.” ~ Johnny Carson

Work Life Balance??

Wow, hard to believe I haven’t blogged in almost 4 months!   Going back to the corporate world and still doing massage part-time has kept me beyond busy!  I am not complaining, I actually like being so busy.  I haven’t exactly nailed the work-life balance lifestyle down yet, but plan to beginning sometime in 2014.

I never thought I would return to the corporate world, especially after having left it for nine years!  It was a struggle at first, and I questioned whether I had made the right decision on several occasions.   I do miss my freedom and the fact that I didn’t have to be anywhere at a certain time of day 5 days a week when I was self employed.  However it’s a nice trade off to have steady, reliable income.  It’s also nice that I don’t have a billable hour requirement, my hours are 9am-5pm, and that my 20 minute commute is reverse traffic both ways.

I am at a really good place in my life, fortunate enough to be working in two jobs I enjoy.

The one thing I have missed is reading, but I am getting back into that right away.  I always feel like something is missing if I am not reading 2-3 books at any given time.

I will attempt to blog at least 1x a month from here on in… sorry for the lapse.

Creating Wellness in Your Life

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am voracious reader, typically reading three books at any given time.  I just finished wonderful book that inspired me so much that I have decided to include excerpts on my blog.

Ten Ideas for Creating Wellness in Your Life

(Excerpt from “Am I Being Kind”,

by Michael J. Chase, Founder of The Kindness Center)

1.  Using only positive, kind thoughts make a list of the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects that you love about yourself.

2. Make time for spiritual practice each day through prayer or meditation.

3. Connect with nature. Walk; hike; or swim; or simply immerse yourself in sunlight and fresh air, observing the magic of the natural world.

4.  Breathe in and exhale the energy of gratitude.  Give thanks every single day for the infinite blessings that surround you.

5.  Laugh!  Watch funny movies or spend time with energetic, humorous people.

6.  If you don’t already have one, consider adopting a pet. Studies reveal that animals can alleviate much of our daily stress.

7.  Feed your mind with inspirational book and positive quotes.

8.  Volunteer, serve, and make kindness your intention.

9.  Choose high grade “fuel” such as whole and organic foods. Also make water your number one drink.

10.  Find an exercise program that works for you, and get moving. This one decision alone will transform your life.

Deep Tissue Massage Sacramento

Many people like massages. It is a nice feeling when tired muscles experiences relief.  In particular, a deep tissue massage is a type of massage that penetrates the deep tissue layers of the muscles thereby relieving the body from undue stress.  In Sacramento, California where people are involved in active lifestyle and career-driven environment, a deep tissue massage at the end of a tiring day or week has some benefits.

Deep tissue massage Sacramento improves the overall wellness of a person. Here are some of the benefits of deep tissue massage Sacramento:

1. Improves blood circulation.  Massages, in general, lower blood pressure.  Deep tissue massage Sacramento puts enough pressure into the deep tissues; improving how the muscles work around large blood vessels.  Deep tissue massage Sacramento allows blood to flow smoothly around the body which improves other body functions. Good circulation that is improved by deep tissue massage Sacramento brings oxygen-rich blood thereby supplying the necessary nutrients to the muscles

2. Alleviates muscle pain. Because deep tissue massage Sacramento works into the deep muscle tissues, the improved circulation reduces the inflammation that can cause pain.  Deep tissue massage Sacramento can also help relax tight muscles. Toxins that accumulate into the muscles are also released by deep tissue massage Sacramento.

3. Heals muscle injuries. Injured muscles build up toxins which can hamper the healing process.  Deep tissue massage Sacramento stretches the muscle tissues releasing tension and toxins. With this, deep tissue massage Sacramento improves the condition of the injury because pain is controlled. In many sports injuries, deep tissue massage Sacramento is applied to promote rehabilitation of the muscles.

There is indeed healing powers in deep tissue massage Sacramento. Vonda taps into the natural healing power of the body through the power of touch.   Vonda believes that massage, including deep tissue massage Sacramento, is an experience of the body and soul.  Vonda is a certified and educated therapist who heals and relaxes your muscles by listening to your preferences and how your body adapts to the deep tissue massage Sacramento. For the Love Of Gracie….

I inherited Gracie from my son over a year ago.   I cannot even begin to tell you what a blessing this beloved little girl has been in my life!!  Dogs really do help you to view your life/the universe differently, that is, if you care to pay attention.  The unconditional love and companionship they offer is unfathomable.

I won’t go on ad nauseum, but here are just a few of the things I absolutely adore about Princess Gracie (in no particular order of preference):

1.  The way she lays her head on my heart and looks up at me while sitting in my lap (esp. when we’re in the car).  I think my heart grows 2-3 sizes whenever she does this which always makes me think of the Grinch sliding down the hill into Whoville after his heart increased in size over finally getting the true meaning of Christmas!

2.  Her pure love of the outdoors and getting exercise!  She runs around in circles and gets so excited when I mention the words, “walk” “dog park” or “road trip”. She is completely tireless fetching something in the water, walking at a good clip on the hiking trail, or chasing a ball.

3.  Her fearlessness.  She will approach any dog, any size, any time.  She is a small 17 pound dog (Cairn terrier) with a big dog attitude.  I swear she sees herself as a Pitbull or a Rottweiler!!

4.  She’s an amazing ratter with some mad hunting skills.  I have witnessed her make fast work of a vole in a matter of seconds on the AR bike trail.  My son also witnessed her kill a squirrel and a bird while she resided with him on the East coast.  Don’t get me wrong, I do not advocate the killing of any living being, but terriers were bred to hunt vermin, so you have to respect/admire that animal instinct.

5.  Her unadulterated love of people. I think she prefers people to other dogs, as she sometimes appears indifferent to her species.

It’s no surprise that I have been on a dog book reading kick since acquiring Gracie.  Here are a few of my favorite tales thus far:

The Purpose of A Dog

A Dog’s Journey

Following Atticus

 Gotta run…. Gracie calleth!……

Music CAN Soothe The Soul….

Last week, while at an outcall, I noticed that two dogs (Nina and Shay) were in the room, lying near the massage table, hind end to hind end, fully relaxed, enjoying the fact that their Momma was getting a massage and savoring the music I was playing while she relaxed.  It was an adorable thing to witness.

Since I have had a lot of inquiries recently as to where I get my music for my massage playlist, and now that I have confirmed that dogs like my music selection also, I thought it would be a good time to share that information.  I use Pandora (internet radio) for most of my music needs. It’s worth it to pay the nominal $36 yearly fee and NOT hear intermittent commercials.   For massage, I use the following playlists:

Massage

Reiki

Cello

Zen Garden Radio

Meditation

Yoga

Classical Lounge Radio

Brrrrr – It’s Cold Outside! Coping with Climate Changes

I hate to admit that I have an issue with a climate change, but, alas, I do.  When the colder, shorter days arrive, I have to continually resist the desire to hibernate.  I don’t want to get up out of my warm, cozy bed and have to put on my gym clothes!?!  DARN IT!!!!  How many times can I hit the snooze button and still be able to accomplish what I need to before my work day begins?   It doesn’t help that my 3-1/2 year old Cairn terrier companion, Gracie looks sleepily up at me as I peel myself out of bed with her big brown puppy eyes and then promptly settles back into her blanket cocoon without a modicum of sympathy!!  Who says, dogs are man’s best friend!?

As with anything, there are pros and cons to a climate change.  Being the eternal optimist, I prefer to focus on the pros and don’t let my mind dwell on the negatives.

1.  Catch up on reading

2.  Get caught up on administrative tasks/chores

3.  Watch movies

4.  More time to cuddle

5.  Comfort food!

6.  Whether giving or receiving a massage – I imagine that I am somewhere warm and  tropical

7.   Savor red wine (which pairs perfectly with #5!)

8.   Play board games

9.   Stronger inclination to cook/bake

10. Barley Wine season

11. Crab season

12. Sauna/hot tub weather

13. Hike/ski/snowboard
